Thanksgiving 2007

Well, we had a super Thanksgiving this year! There were eight of us, counting Scott's mother and Rich, and we couldn't all fit at our little dining table, so we moved it into the living room and added a fold-out card table onto the end of it! It worked quite well.

Ridiculously, I completely forgot to take any pictures until after we had finished eating and were outside playing Giant Frisbee! I was completely flabbergasted that I'd forgotten such an important detail. However, I've decided to blame my forgetfulness on the fact that we all got our food buffet-style from the kitchen counter, instead of trying to cram it all onto the table and pass it around as we have done in previous years. It's seeing all the food laid out on the table that usually triggers me to want to take pictures, and that didn't happen this year. So we have pictures of leftovers! HA!! Oh well... I can only laugh about it! You will have to take my word for it that Rich cooked a beautiful turkey, Scott made some excellent mashed potatoes, Scott's mother brought us deviled eggs, cheesecake, turnip greens and sweet potato casserole, Scott baked some yummy rolls and made some decadent Godiva truffles, Rich cooked some stuffing, and I made some delicious glazed carrots, broccoli with cheese, peas, and English Bisto gravy to go with it all!

However, you will NOT have to take my word for it that Rich cleverly baked creme brulee for all of us! We got to watch him scorch the sugar on top with a torch! Here is the (delicious) finished product:

Fortunately, we did manage to get pictures of us around the table right before we ate dessert. Scott's mother is the lady in the middle that you don't recognize. Everyone else is the rest of us! :)

After dinner, to work off some calories, we all went out to play a windy game of Giant Frisbee in the cul-de-sac. Even Grandma Betty joined in! Rich joined in too, except that I didn't remember the camera until after he'd already gone inside. Jaymee was the only one who didn't do any frisbeeing.

Later, after dessert, Scott and the girls went out to ride bikes in the cul-de-sac. Most of my pictures of this event came out too dark, as the flash couldn't illuminate the whole cul-de-sac. We did catch the tail end of a beautiful sunset, though!

Finally, it came down to the task of cleaning up the kitchen and throwing away the turkey carcass. Just as I was dropping it in the trash can, I suddenly thought, "Wouldn't it be a lovely treat for Zena to gnaw on this a bit!!" Of course, she was right there, whining hopefully, so I let her have a go at it! She was ecstatic, as you can see.

So it was a wonderful Thanksgiving for all of us.
And now, just to totally change the subject, here is a picture of me modeling my early Christmas present from Scott: a new winter jacket! He very kindly bought it for me last weekend, and I'm extremely pleased with it because it's much more attractive than my old blue one, and warmer too! Thank you, Scott! :)
